EV perks in Ontario (2026)
What Ontario and the federal government give you for driving an electric vehicle: purchase rebates, programs that pay you to charge at home, road privileges, the cheapest electricity plan for overnight charging, and any fees that come with it. Every figure is read daily from the official page it comes from.
Purchase rebates
The federal EVAP incentive gives $5,000 on a new battery EV and $2,500 on a plug-in hybrid, until March 31, 2031 or while funds last ($50,000 final transaction value price cap). Ontario has no provincial purchase rebate, so the federal amount is the total.

14 programs pay Ontario drivers to charge at home, 2 of them only here; the best published rate works out to about $492 a year with GreenMiles.

HOV lanes, tolls and road perks
Green plates give solo drivers free HOV and HOT lane access province-wide, with no announced end date. What you need: Green vehicle licence plate from any ServiceOntario centre (no extra fee; not available online). Eligible: battery-electric, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles, including used 2010+ models; conventional hybrids, motorcycles and conversions are excluded.
Electricity rates for charging
Ontario Energy Board (Hydro One, Toronto Hydro, Alectra, etc.)'s default residential plan, Time-of-Use (TOU), charges 9.8¢/kWh at its cheapest (energy only). The Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) plan drops overnight charging to 3.9¢/kWh (11pm–7am every day) – at 300 kWh a month that saves about $212 a year. Rates effective November 1, 2025.
Annual EV fee
Ontario charges no annual EV fee.
