EV perks in British Columbia (2026)
What British Columbia and the federal government give you for driving an electric vehicle: purchase rebates, programs that pay you to charge at home, road privileges, the cheapest electricity plan for overnight charging, and any fees that come with it. Every figure is read daily from the official page it comes from.
Purchase rebates
The federal EVAP incentive gives $5,000 on a new battery EV and $2,500 on a plug-in hybrid, until March 31, 2031 or while funds last ($50,000 final transaction value price cap). British Columbia's own rebate (CleanBC Go Electric) has ended (December 31, 2024), so the federal amount is the total.

HOV lanes, tolls and road perks
Eligible EVs may use HOV lanes with a single occupant wherever signage says electric vehicles are allowed – no decal needed since Aug 15 2025. What you need: None to display: the former “OK” decal requirement was removed on August 15 2025. Access is governed by lane signage. Eligible: battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles; hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles added April 1 2026.
Electricity rates for charging
BC Hydro's default residential plan, Flat rate, charges 12.7¢/kWh (energy only). The Time-of-day pricing (add-on to flat or tiered) plan drops overnight charging to 7.7¢/kWh (11pm–7am) – at 300 kWh a month that saves about $180 a year. Rates effective April 1, 2026.
Annual EV fee
British Columbia charges no annual EV fee.
